Born in the coalfields of West Virginia, Lori Brook Johnson uses the searching nature of drawing materials to speak with her community altered by labor and grief. She uses the rhythm and routine of mark-making as a witness to loving care.

Lori Brook Johnson received her MFA from Clemson University. She is a 2018 and 2020 recipient of The Elizabeth Greenshields Grant and currently lives in Bakersville, NC where she is a Teaching Artist in the Community at Penland School of Craft.
